Recommended Local Restaurants

There are so many good placews to eat in this area of Rome, we just chose the best within a 5 minute walk of the apartment.

Within a 5 minute walk

Il San Lorenzo-VIA DEI CHIAVARI 4/5, 00186 ROMA Tel +39066865097 http://www.ilsanlorenzo.it At this savvy restaurant in a side street near Campo de' Fiori, fish is the focus, brought daily from the waters of Ponza to Rome. The $95 tasting menu shows off chef Tommaso Maddalena's culinary acumen, with dishes like squid ink tagliatelle with olive oil, lemon, and artichokes, while the $72 Povero Pesce has a bit more fun. The restaurant's design is chic and modern thanks to glittering chandeliers, exposed brick, and curated artwork. Beautiful restaurant and prices are reasonable for what you get.

Casa Bleve-VIA DEL TEATRO VALLE 48/49, 00186 ROMA Tel +39066865970 http://www.casableve.it Occupying an old palace (1492) with large vaulted ceilings, this upscale restaurant near Palazzo Madama offers an à la carte menu of Italian specialities. Attractive display of wines near the entrance, many by the glass, including some fine.vintages. Friendly and family operated. Moderate.

Sora Lella-VIA DI PONTE QUATTRO CAPI 16, 00186 ROMA +39066861601 www.trattoriasoralella.it The draw here—in addition to the wonderful food—is the fact that this is the only restaurant on Isola Tiberina, the wondrously picturesque island set in the middle of the Tiber river between the Jewish Ghetto and Trastevere, that's open year-round. The dining rooms, spread over two floors, are elegant, and service is discreet. As for the food, try the delicious prosciutto and mozzarella to start, and move on to classics like pasta all'amatriciana, meatballs in tomato sauce, or Roman baby lamb chops. The stuffed calamari in white wine sauce is worthy of facendo una scarpetta—taking a piece of bread to sop up the savory sauce. Moderate prices

Emma-VIA MONTE DELLA FARINA 28-29 Tel 06-64760475 www.emmapizzeria.com Opened by Rome's renowned family of bakers, the Rosciolis, this large, sleek, modern pizzeria is smack in the middle of the city, with the freshest produce right outside the door. Start your meal with the artichoke salad if it's in season and an order of golden-fried supplì, then choose among the excellent pastas and thin-crust pizzas. The pancetta and chicory pizza is simple but outstanding—you really can't go wrong here. The quite extensive wine list features many local Lazio options. If you have room, the warm apple cake with vanilla bean gelato, is deliciously decadent. Moderate pricing.

Open Baladin-VIA DEGLI SPECCHI 5–6 Tel 06-6838989 www.baladin.it The craft beer movement has taken hold in Italy and this gorgeous, sprawling space down the road from Campo de' Fiori is headed up by the Baladin beer company. Staff members take their jobs—and brews—seriously, and they're helpful with recommendations from the more than 40 options on tap and the more than 100 bottles to choose from. The food is mostly burgers and sandwiches, in many, many incarnations, and the hand-cut potato chips come in interesting flavors like cacio e pepe or paprika. Inexpensive

Ba' Ghetto-VIA DEL PORTICO D'OTTAVIA 57 Tel 06-68892868 www.kosherinrome.com This hot spot on the main promenade in the Jewish Ghetto has been going strong for years, with pleasant indoor and outdoor seating. The kitchen is kosher (many places featuring Roman Jewish fare are not) and serves meat dishes (so no dairy); the menu features an assortment of Roman Jewish delights, as well as Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Jewish fare. Enjoy starters like phyllo "cigars" stuffed with ground meat and spices, or the mixed appetizer platter with hummus. Forego pasta for couscous (the spicy fish is delicious) or baccalà with raisins and pine nuts. Down the street is Ba'Ghetto Milky (Via del Portico d'Ottavia 2/a), the kosher dairy version of the original.
